Blowout Prevention System
A blowout endangers lives of the crew, can destroy a rig worth millions of dollars, wastes valuable hydrocarbons, and may damage the environment. In a blowout, fluid (oil, gas, or salt water) erupts from the well, usually with great force, and can ignite into a roaring inferno, especially if the fluid contains gas.
In this module you will learn:
- How a blowout happens
- Causes and signs of a potential well blowout
- Purpose and components of a blowout prevention system
- Special equipment required for blowout prevention on offshore rigs
- Auxiliary equipment that may be used with the blowout prevention system
- Use of blowout preventers during normal and abnormal conditions
- How blowouts are prevented when a kick is detected
In order to successfully complete this module you will be required to:
- Go through all the lessons in the module.
- Complete the practice items.
- Complete the module quiz with a passing grade of 70%. You will have 2 chances to complete the quiz.
At the end, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. It should take you approximately 45-60 minutes to complete this module.
